Fläkt Woods has completed an unusual contract, to provide the ventilation solutions for the new London Muslim Centre, the largest in Europe, a £10.4m community center in the East London.
Comfort cooling was required in the new building with as little air movement as possible and a high degree of energy efficiency. Low draught displacement was an obvious essential element as occupants sat down to pray on prayer mats.
To this end, Flakt Woods technicians came up with a proposal that included a range of the company’s EU air handling units, which helped achieve air displacement in the large prayer halls and ablutions areas, with thermal wheels and a package coolers on all units.
The six-storey building can hold up to 6,500 worshippers and also contains a gym, a library, crèche and classrooms. The London Muslim Centre is a project of the East London Mosque - itself the oldest mosque in London established in 1910.
Working for Bamford PLC Central London, the architect on the project was the Environmental Design Partnership, Leicesterhire.
