Fläkt Woods, the Global number one supplier of ventilation products for tunnels and metros, has been awarded contracts worth in excess of 6 MEUR to supply tunnel ventilation fans for several projects in Taiwan.
The ventilation fans will be used to exhaust contaminated air, remove heat to prevent excessive temperatures, and to remove heat and smoke in the event of a fire to assist in the safe evacuation of people.
The Taipei Rapid Transit System (Taipei MRT).
The rapid economic growth in Taiwan over the last 25 years goes hand in hand with continuous development of the island’s infrastructure. New roads, expansion of the existing underground metro system, and expansion of the ground rail network system are ongoing:
- The Taiwan High Speed Rail covers a distance of approximately 350 km, from Taipei in the north to Kaohsiung in the south, serving 14 major cities. Being a mountainous country resulted in a major proportion of the rail line having to be constructed in tunnels and via ducts. Fläkt Woods has supplied several large tunnel ventilation fans to the underground station in Tao Yuan. It is planned that the High Speed Rail network becomes operational in October 2005.
- The Taipei Rapid Transit System (Taipei MRT) opened its first subway line in 1996, the system has been continually extended since this then until today. It currently consists of 7 lines with a total overall length of 67 km and including 63 stations. New lines continue to be constructed. In addition to the ventilation fans Fläkt Woods have already supplied to a number of the Taipei underground train stations, a new contract has recently been signed to supply 368 fans to the newly constructed Tu-Cheng line.
- As part of the new Taipei-Ilan expressway, the 12.9 m long Pinglin Tunnel has been constructed through the Hsuehshan mountain range. The route consists of two main vehicular tunnels and one service tunnel. The Pinglin Tunnel is currently the longest road tunnel in Asia. Construction commenced in July 1991 with completion scheduled for 2005. Within the overall length of the tunnel Fläkt Woods are supplying 185 ventilation fans, of which some are as large as 2.8 m in diameters and incorporate 630 kW electric motors.
- The Kaohsiung Rapid Transit Corporation (KRTC) is a new metro system consisting of two lines, the Orange and the Red line, and including 37 stations. The track will cover 42.7 km and be 80% underground. Kaohsiung has the third largest harbor in the world, after Hong Kong and Singapore, and is the second largest city on the island of Taiwan. Fläkt Woods has recently been signed a new contract to supply 396 ventilation fans to 10 underground stations.
Our fans will help secure safe and efficient ventilation, supporting the infrastructure investment, which will bring the people in Taiwan closer together.
