Fläkt Woods has signed a prestigious contract worth approximately 2.5 million Euro to deliver EU air handling units with the Econet system for TYKS, the Turku University Hospital in Finland.

Fläkt Woods’ modular product range is modern and highly specified, designed for customers with high demand on quality and energy efficiency. Each unit can be optimized for acoustic and/or efficiency requirements. ECONET® is a system inside the EU air handling unit. In the ECONET® concept, all energy functions, such as heat recovery, heating and cooling are integrated into one common circuit. That makes it one of the most flexible and energy efficient solutions on the market.
Pekka Sipola, Technical sales support, Fläkt Woods Scandinavian markets comments: ”In 2004 we delivered 50 EU air handling units for the Turku University Hospital and now we have been asked to supply an additional 78 units with the Econet system. The fact that TYKS have decided to return to us proves that they are happy with both our solutions and us. This project has the additional element that the customer has been involved in the development by providing us with input concerning the ultimate goal. Fläkt Woods is already one of the major players in the hospital market in Europe. It has completed several projects such as Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm, Rikshospitalet in Oslo, St. Olav’s Hospital in Trondheim, the University Hospital in Tromsö, the Medical Centre in Ramstein and St. Thomas’ Hospital in London. This new order strengthens our position in the hospital market even further.”
Anders Mårtensson, Group Communications Manager, Fläkt Woods Group notes: ”Increasing energy prices make energy efficiency more and more important. Econet is an excellent solution for hospitals and other service buildings that are open 24/7. The energy efficiency is an important factor in order to gain as low Life Cycle Costs as possible. The combination of Fläkt Woods’ EU air handling units and Econet achieves the optimum investment for the Turku University Hospital”.
Juhani Kokko, Project Manager for TYKS at the Engineering Company Åke Jokela Oy, says: ”When we compared the energy consumption between the new and the old hospital building we found it to be approximately 50 % less thanks to Fläkt Woods’ Econet solution. An astonished district-heating supplier visited the hospital building because he thought there was something wrong with the controls as a result of the low energy usage. The readings proved correct and the supplier had to install smaller measuring instruments in the hospital building. The new hospital has advanced techniques when it comes to both treatment and building construction. We decided to let Fläkt Woods be our air handling unit supplier, as Fläkt Woods provides the best ventilation solutions on the market. It was the combination of the energy efficient solution, operational safety and the service-mindedness that convinced us to choose Fläkt Woods.”
