Strategic order on Air Handling Units to cruise liners (doc)

Fläkt Woods has received a prestigious order worth over €6.5 million. The order comprises manufacturing of air-handling units for three large cruise liners. The air-handling units will be delivered from October 2007 until the end of 2009.

The units EUMM are specially designed with all conceivable functions to meet almost every demand. In all, 74 units will be delivered to each cruise liner. Fläkt Woods’ production of air-handling units is situated in Jönköping, whereas some components are produced in other factories within the group, mainly in Sweden and Finland.

The order is strategically important; it is the largest supply of units from Fläkt Woods to the Italian ship and cruise liner industry since 1996. The order will improve Fläkt Woods’ chances to receive more orders from the strong and expansive cruise liner business with shipyard capacity concentrated to Europe.

Fläkt Woods’ client Scanalmare AB, a company within Fläkt Marine Group AB, has sold the project through the German Marine HVAC and Installation Company Imtech Deutschland GmbH & Co.KG Schiffbau/Dockbautechnik. These units represent an important part of their orders received from Fincantieri Trieste Italy. The cruise liners will be built at the Fincantieri Marghera shipyard near Venice, Italy, under the commission of the Italian ship owner Costa Crociere, a company within Carnival Corporation. The ships will be 292 metres in length and they are designed to carry 2260 passengers and a crew of approx. 900 persons. (The largest cruise liner in Sweden, Silja Europa, is 202 metres).

”This order strengthens the position of Fläkt Woods Group’s as being the leading supplier of air-handling/-distribution products. Other equipment and materials developed and manufactured by Fläkt Woods Group benefit from this as these products are necessary in order to provide products to build complete HVAC systems. We will reinforce our organisation with more employees in order to meet the sales demands on the growing segments Marine/Oil & Gas”, says Mikael Karlson, Marine/Oil & Gas Applications Manager, Fläkt Woods Group

”Fläkt Woods Group has had a great order intake so far this year. This is another important order which proves that we are right in our offers to the market and it contributes to a bright future for the Group”, says Anders Mårtensson, Group Communications Manager, Fläkt Woods Group.
