Integrated Chilled Beam ASTRA

Flexibility, sustainability and energy efficiency are the main characteristics of our integrated Chilled Beam, Astra. It has the ground-breaking Boost function where the air flow is adjusted automatically, depending on the level of CO2, in a room, which is affected by people and computers.


Demand controlled ventilation

Demand controlled ventilation provides desired ventilation based on the actual occupancy of the room. It increases indoor air quality and saves energy normally wasted in ventilating unoccupied spaces. This can be applied to areas where there are frequent changes in occupancy, such as conference
rooms, board rooms, cafeterias etc. In normal office building the offices are not occupied more than 60% of the time during a normal working day. This means that demand controlled ventilation can reduce ventilation as well as heating and cooling loads by 10%–30%.


User-friendly controller for optimal performance
The STRA-14 room controller is specifically developed for Astra.
It is pre-programmed for chilled beam applications and contains a wide range of control functions for fl exibility, comfort and energy efficiency.
The user-friendly display enables fast and easy access for change of set-points and control parameters. For optional integration with building management systems, STRA-14 has Modbus communication as standard.

Flow Pattern Control
Astra has the unique Flow Pattern Control (FPC) function that provides high flexibility in new buildings or refurbishments. The airflow can be directed up to 45 degrees through integrated vanes. When increased air fl ow is required, the vanes can be adjusted into different directions, in order to increase the comfort.

Fläkt Woods unique comfort control makes it easy to adjust the air flow. Using the patented control rails, the air flow is adjusted by varying the size of the hole lengths in the supply air channel. This can be done simply in conjunction with balancing. A regulating damper is not normally necessary.

The adjustable hole lengths permit different air diffusion (two-way, one-way and intermediate positions). The easy regulation of the air diffusion and capacity make it possible to adapt to future changed conditions. On delivery, the hole lengths are open to their maximum extent as the starting point for future balancing.

The FPC (Flow Pattern Control) function for the IQ chilled beams provides high flexibility. The combination of flow pattern control (FPC) and the patented comfort control gives the IQ beam unique characteristics.

FPC provides the possibility to adjust the air flow pattern at different angles, 0 – 15 – 30 – 45, through built-in vanes and adjustable rails. The different directions can be achieved in sections of 300 mm within the beam. The flow pattern can easily be adjusted and the beam.

IQ Beams with FPC function are optimized for minimal noise and pressure drop.

Construction and function
The chilled beam ASTRA is designed for ceiling mounting, and it is suited for ceiling modules ofsize 600 mm both in length and width, which means that it is flush with the ceiling surface.

The ASTRA chilled beam is a very flexible chilled beam that is available as a basic model, but can also be equipped with a number of functions to provide a multifunctional chilled beam. The following functions are available for ASTRA: heating, comfort control, Flow Pattern Control (FPC air deflector), function for high air flow, control equipment, lighting and provision for a sprinkler system and Boost-functionality.

The air flow can be adjusted by means of the patented adjusting rails (Comfort control, optional function, read more in separate catalogue section) with which the length of the holes in the supply air duct is changed. This can easily be done with normal adjustments.

The adjustable hole lengths allow different air distribution (two-way, one-way and middle positions).

The simple adjustment of air distribution and capacity makes it possible to adapt to changing conditions in the future. Before delivery, the hole lengths of standard beams are preset at the longest possible position to provide a starting position for later adjustment (if the beam have comfort control).

The beam can be supplied with a coil for heating water, read more in separate catalogue section Heating.

The purging nipple is a choice in the product code.

Material and surface finish
The casing is mainly made of galvanized steel sheet. The frontplate is powder painted in white.The standard colour RAL 9010, which corresponds to NCS 0502-Y, gloss level 30. Coil made of copper pipe with connection, Øout = 15 mm, and aluminium fins. Maximum working pressure 1.6 MPa.
