It’s not very often that we see contractor’s gang up on consultants is it? However that’s exactly what happened at the Fläkt Woods 5 a-side Football Tournament at Star City Birmingham.
The teams organised by Jo Hook Fläkt Woods Midlands Innovations UK, were made up of West Midlands D& B contractors, however due to illness one team dropped out and in came a very kind addition by consultants Arup Associates!
The Line up:
Arup The youthful Arup Boys led by Luke Brotherton walked in with David Beckham style looks; sporting a fine blue and white kit with company logo and all! gave some sterling football moves with Nick, Andy, Mark, Ross and Richard throughout!

Dodd Group came with a player who was known as the mighty chopper! Their boys travelled all the way from Telford to make their mark, and showed great ambition in a team effort driven by Richard and Phillip in every game.

Crown House Technologies (CHT) brought their weapons of mass destruction “super Shaun” Whale and goalkeeper “Chris Corton” who was later renamed “Christ”! for his hand of God like saves! Individual performances by Baz, Fryer, Vernon and Jones were noted!

NG Bailey or (“NRG” Bailey as they became) offered a host of talented footballers from both the office team (Bailey 1) and the site team (Bailey 2) NG Bailey’s invigorating teams showcased a host of talented players under captains Butler & Mcgarry, Goalkeepers Butler & Shaw were terrific coupled with skilled footwork from Ryan Davies, Rob Ellis and Lee Tabbis, who was later named Player of the tournament (to name but a few!)

There was welcome support from CHT Pete Wilcock and the Bassnett family. The NG Bailey cheerleaders, Jasmine from reception and Rob King. Fläkt Woods Neil Southall (Econet/E3) and Deborah McCreadie (Fans/E3) also helped out!
The evening culminated in both Bailey’s teams triumphing, as NG Bailey 1 who lead the tournament on goal difference and NG Bailey 2 thrashed it out in tense penalty shoot out! This resulted in a final win for Baileys 2 leaving Baileys 1 to take the runners up trophy! This event will certainly be repeated in the New Year, consultants v’s contractors next time! This should give the consultants time to get their own back!
