On a cold October evening in 2009, seven hopeful football teams met with one common goal, to win the Fläkt Woods 5 Aside Challenge.
In its second year Jo Hook of Fläkt Woods Fans/Building services organised the event for our Midlands customers. Deborah McCreadie and Neil Southall Fläkt Woods innovations joined the event inviting M&E Consultant teams to play.
This quickly turned into a war between consultant’s and contractors! The teams were made up from NG Bailey, BAM Construction, Crown House Technologies, Js Wright Ltd, Arup, Cundall Johnson and Hulley and Kirkwood. It was nice to see so many supporters who came with their gloves and scarves on to assist teams with first aid kits and leg massages! The smiles and grins turned to determination and defence when the football challenge began, the mighty Crown House (coached for the 2nd year running by Pete Fryer) Saw Cooper, Corten, Moore, and Aston, battled tirelessly against JS Wrights Bevan and Hollywood!
Last years winners NG Bailey hit the ground running, yet again producing impressive team work from Davies, Pinfold, Mills, Butler Evans and Ellis. The bar had been raised for new comers Cundall Johnson & Bam construction leaving Hawkes and Gibson tired out early on in these very fast paced games! Arup showed they had been practising with Brotherton and Willis both making positive impact this time around! The professional skills demonstrated by Hulley and Kirkwood via Bradley and Murray proved to be a successful combination, conceding only 1 game all evening the great team work from Maleghemi and Bragoli/Hutchinson took Hulley directly into a nail biting final showdown with last years winners NG Bailey!
During the Fläkt Woods final Jo Hook and Deborah McCreadie supported opposing teams and shouted excitedly in competition; however it was Jo and Baileys who were jubilant for the 2nd year running firmly securing the title as Fläkt Woods 5 a-side winners 2008 & 2009!!
Deborah McCreadie Fläkt Woods commented, 2009 is Fläkt Woods centenary year, after 100 years, Fläkt Woods are still forging great relationships with our regional consultants and contractors! It’s a pleasure to be part of this football event, our customers thoroughly enjoy it and really do play hard ball! A little too hard for Hulley and Kirkwood however as one of there players broke his big toe in the final! Well done to NG Bailey who were victorious once again Thanks so much to Jo Hook and all of the teams who joined in….hopefully the consultants will have better luck at winning the title next year!
